Tapuwae - Northcote Safe Cycle Route Bridges
Tapuwae (footprint) is the name given to the striking cycle and walkway bridges constructed on either side of the main road-bridge crossing the Northern Motorway (SH1) at Northcote. The artwork by Iwi artist, Reuben Kirkwood, which extends across the span of both bridges, represents the founding of the volcanic landscape in Tamaki.
Illumination of the artwork is achieved with the use of slimline Lumenfacade Horizontal luminaires following the architectural lines of the structure. The result at night is a stunning warm-white glow which sympathetically enhances the red and gold interwoven cables forming the artwork. Lumenpulse RGB luminaires have been programmed to stage subtle scenes on the underside of the bridge supports and embankment.
